Attached Accessory Dwellings or ADUs is an exploding industry. If homeowners have the motivation and time, money, and space to build onto their existing lot, they will do it.
For many homeowners a ADU means passive income. The recent trend of backyard cottage development is partly due to the introduction of DADUs, essentially, an ADU that is not attached to the main house. The increased demand and the opportunities that DADUs create for homeowners play a large part in my focus on backyard cottage construction.
More and more of my clients are looking at investing in a DADU to create a passive income source. For example, tourism is a big business in Seattle, and a backyard vacation rental is a potentially lucrative small business.
Recently, the online real estate company, Redfin, contacted me to provide my thoughts on using an ADU/DADU for rental. The article features advice from 13 different ADU experts about renting out an ADU. It’s an engaging read that provides insightful tips about the process of creating a successful rental business in your backyard.
